In my recent fieldwork, I had the privilege of visiting over 20 Anganwadis across Mumbai, immersing myself in the vibrant world of early childhood nutrition. These centers, often the first touchpoint for many children in underserved communities, play a pivotal role in shaping the health and future of our youngest citizens.
To gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and successes of these vital institutions, I had the opportunity to interview pediatric nutritionists who are dedicated to improving the nutritional standards and overall well-being of children. Their insights, combined with firsthand observations from the ground, have provided valuable data that sheds light on the innovative practices, as well as the hurdles faced in delivering nutrition services at the grassroots level. In this article, I share the findings and highlight the incredible work being done to ensure that every child has the nutrition they need to grow and thrive.
